Survival Cooking
Stuff You Gotta Have
I've been using Survival Cooking for years without even knowing it. It was an evolutionary process. Amazingly, I'm better now than I was ten years ago. I get better at it all the time, and without any effort. It's easier as time goes by. There are just a few things to keep paying attention to. This site is trying to help identify those few things. It's not rocket science. It's just good stuff to eat that's easy to make.
Survival Cooking Necessities:
PANS, BOWLS & STUFF LIKE THAT:
Strainers. Gotta have a few strainers.
Mixing Bowls. Self explanatory. Not just for mixing as you can see, you can store with them too.
Cast Iron Frying Pans. Self explanatory, but their care might need a little explaining.
Roasting Pan. Self explanatory
Corning Ware or a reasonable facsimile. Multi-purpose stuff.
Pyrex Measuring Cup. Kinda nice because it cleans easily, and it can be the mixing bowl for small things.
Pyrex Pan. I like these because they clean easily, and they can be the left over container. However, cooking time is a little longer.
Sauce Pans. Having a few of these of various sizes is an absolute necessity.
KNIVES:
Carbon Steel Knives No compromise here. Anything else and you'll be sorry. These will actually hold an edge!
Bread Knife For cutting bread. Duh! Actually, these can be Stainless Steel®.
SPICES, SEASONINGS & FLAVORINGS:
Salt
Pepper
Onion Salt
Onion Powder
Garlic Salt
Garlic Powder
And a bunch of the rest of the obvious...
Barbeque Sauce Who knows how many of these there are.
Chef Paul Prudhomme® Seasonings. There are a bunch of these. Get them all.
Hot Sauce Zillions of these!! Keep a bunch of them. They're all different!
Ketchup Careful - some are left wing ketchups.
Marinade You pick. Or you can make your own.
Mayonnaise You're not using Hellmann's®??
Minced Garlic Use it a lot!
Minced Onion This is a good one!
Mrs. Dash® Seasonings Pretty good assortment here.
Mustard Lots of kinds to choose from.
Mustard Powder Got to have this.
Oregano Generic is fine.
Ranch Dressing You pick.
Vinegar You need all kinds.
Worchestershire Sauce Only Lea & Perrins® is acceptable. They offer it in White also.
I know I must have left something out, and anyway this sort of thing is never really definitive, so fill me in or staighten me out with your feedback!! I can adapt!
